It all started yesterday and it is spilling over into today.
I received an Edible Bouquet yesterday.
It started with a phone call from the deliverer at 9:00AM to find my location in the Academic building I work in. I couldn't for the life of me figure out who would send me such decadence (it really was that awesome). The deliverer told me I wouldn't get it until sometime after noon. So I pondered.
Meanwhile, we started doing registration for students in the Fall 2013 semester. Let me tell you, if you never questioned the intelligence of mankind, registration will do it for you.
I was becoming increasingly frustrated as the day went on. My lunch workout couldn't even tap into my stress. I tried to take a walk around my building to try to clear my head, natta.
Then my bouquet arrived. It was beautiful! (yeah, there is only the vase left)
That's it right there. Does it not look amazing?!!!
I dove into it and I was nice enough to share. It lasted 2 minutes tops.
So I look for the name. Was it my husband? If so, he had a lot of explaining to do. I never get flowers. No, it wasn't him. Was it a co-worker? Did I scream at one of them? No, not a co-worker.
And then there it was. A name I didn't recognize at first.
"Thank you for going above and beyond to help me. With Great Appreciation..."
It took me a minute, but then I realized who it was. It was a former student I helped over the phone a few weeks prior.
What I did was simple, no effort really. Something I would do for anyone.
I received her phone call and could tell she was frustrated. She indicated she had been passed around over the phone a few times.
I asked her what I could do for her. She was looking for test scores, but she had graduated some time ago. While I was on the phone with her, I tried to pull up what I could. No scores. No file as a matter of fact.
I told her I would need to do a little research, but it wouldn't take long. The alumnus then told me she was overseas, but did have email.
I began contacting the people I knew who could help and copying the alumnus on the emails. Since she was overseas, I thought it would relieve her stress to know what was going on.
In about 30 minutes, we were able to resolve her issue. Something I do daily.
I email her to thank her for the beautiful bouquet and delicious bites that came in it. I tell her I greatly appreciate it, it was just something I do everyday.
She responds with this:
"What you did for me was amazing. I didn’t know where to turn or who to speak with. When I contacted you, I felt like I had a friend there taking care of everything. I didn’t feel like a number. You kept me informed and in the loop.
Please enjoy the bouquet as a token of my gratitude to you. Keep that winning spirit and personality."
I literally started crying. I do my job being myself and not trying to be anything else. It's these moments that make me feel human, make me have faith in mankind.
So.....
